INCIDENT: Emre (left) and Zokara
TURKISH INTERNATIONAL Emre Belozoglu has been given a two-match ban after insulting former Tottenham Hotspur player Didier Zokora.
The 31-year-old Emre, who plays for Turkish club Fenerbahce, was accused by Trabzonspor and Ivory Coast’s Zokora of insulting him with a racial slur during Fenerbahce’s 2-0 win over Trabzonspor on April 15.
A civil law suit was then filed by Trabzonspor on April 19.
The Turkish Football Disciplinary Committee deemed that Emre had verbally abused Zokora but that the abuse was not racial.
"Emre and I had an argument during the game. I beg your pardon for saying this, but he insulted me by saying n****r," said Zokora.
"What upsets me more is how disgraceful it is for a player who has African team mates like [Senegal's Moussa] Sow and [Nigeria's Joseph] Yobo to insult an African from another team."
Emre denies the allegations.
