Drought relief for Western Jamaica

APPROVAL: Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Noel Arscott

THE GOVERNMENT has allocated $3 million for the trucking of water to areas of Western Jamaica currently being affected by drought.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Noel Arscott, approved the sum in response to requests made by the Westmoreland and Hanover Parish Councils.

The affected areas are reportedly not served by the National Water Commission.

The ministry notes that the $3 million is less that the amount that was requested and will have to be shared equally between the two parishes.

But it says it was unable to allocate more funds at this time as it is making allowances for anticipated demand from other parish councils.
