THANKS TO the success of Black Panther, The Dora Milaje, T’challa’s all-female army will be the stars of their own comic book series.

Marvel have joined with award-winning Nigerian writer Nnedi Okorafor to write the comic books, which will be released this summer.

“I’m super excited about writing this storyline. Powerful, disciplined African women with futuristic spears who faced their shortcomings and changed a nation? Oh heck yeah, I’m so there,” Okorafor told Vogue.

The Dora Milaje storyline will intertwine with Spiderman, the X-Men and the Avengers comic book series.

The famed and fierce warriors have won hearts around the world in the aftermath of box-office record breaking blockbuster Black Panther. And a spin-off series will be the answer to many fans wishes.

“Typically when you see them, they’re with T’Challa, representing and protecting him,” Okorafor said. “Now you’re going to see the Dora Milaje for the first time as an independent entity; they’re not under the shadow of the throne.”

Okorafor, well-known for her sci-fi and fantasy work, recently penned issues of the digital series Black Panther: Long Live the King.

Will Moss, the editor of the series, said: “We’re lucky to have Nnedi on board for this — she’s an incredible novelist, and her recent Black Panther: Long Live the King digital series proved that she’s a great comic book writer too. She’s come up with a crazy-tough problem for the Dora Milaje to solve — but if anyone can, it’s these crazy-tough women.”

The comic books will see Dora Milaje members Okoye, Ayo, and Aneka go on a globe-trotting mission to protect the realm at any cost.

The three-part comic will feature illustrations by Alberto Jiménez Alburquerque and Terry Dodson.

Wakanda Forever: Amazing Spider-Man number one will be released digitally and in comic book stores on 27 June.
