Documentary to air about UK's West African churches

SERVICE: People attend church (PA)

CHANNEL FOUR will be broadcasting a documentary and 16 three-minute short films about West African Christianity in the UK in the run up to Easter.

Paralympic medalist, Ade Adepitan, will look at how West African churches in the UK are bucking the trend of dwindling church attendance in the country’s more traditional churches.

The documentary, A Very British Mission, and short programmes will look at the reasons for the church’s success, their doctrine and what they provide for their members that other churches don’t.

Adepitan said: “I’m extremely proud to be part of a programme that sidesteps the mainstream, in an effort to highlight the diversity of Christian worship amongst the UK’s West African community.”

The series of short films will feature individuals that play a part in the churches, from a pastor planting a new church in a London borough to a convert preparing for their baptism.

Churches being featured are Potters House Christian Church, Thornton Heath City Chapel London, Beckton Highway of Holiness Christian Faith Tabernacle in New Cross and Woolwich.

A Very British Mission airs April 4 at 7.30pm on Channel 4
