UK RAPPER Dave has urged his fans to support his latest single and get it to Number 1 in the official UK charts.

The independently-released song, Funky Friday, which features Fredo, has achieved over six million combined streams in just over five days.

Funky Friday is Dave’s first release in more than six months. His fans have been impatiently waiting for him to share new music and they haven’t been disappointed.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, Dave said: “Crazy news but we’re Number 2 in the midweeks...we’re so close to being Number 1.”

Stormzy is among the stars supporting Dave’s number 1 bid.

He re-posted the video with the caption: “My brother [Dave] is ridiculously close to claiming the UK Number 1 with Funky Friday with my bro Fredo this could be one of the most iconic and game changing moments in the history of our scene and it’ll come from one of the most talented, coldest, sickest young king’s in our country - if everyone who read this went on iTunes now and bought Funky Friday it’ll be job done. The link is in my bio - let’s do it.”

The 20-year-old, who also produced the Funky Friday, became the youngest ever winner of the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song for Question Time this year.

The video for the song, which was released in conjunction with the single, was co-directed by Dave and has already clocked up more than 2 million views on YouTube.

Funky Friday has also reached Number 1 on both the Apple Music and Spotify as well as Number 8 on the iTunes chart.

The surge of streams have already helped the south London rapper to reach new heights.

He wrote on Twitter: “Thank you for breaking records on my streaming! 633,000 streams on Spotify alone in 24 hours!”

Wherever Funky Friday charts in the top 10, it will be Dave's fourth UK Top 40 single.

Later this year Dave will embark on his first European tour. The seven-date tour will kick-off in Paris and finish in Amsterdam.
