Croydon murder victim revealed

KILLED: Trevor Ellis

POLICE HAVE released images of the man gunned down during the Croydon riots on Monday (Aug 8).

Father of four, Trevor Ellis, was shot in his head while sitting in his car just minutes away from where groups of people had taken to the streets causing devastation to local businesses.

He was taken to the nearby St George's Hospital, but pronounced dead the following day (Aug 9).

He was the first fatality of the violent riots, sparked by the death of a man by police in Tottenham, that have plagued London and surrounding areas over the last four days.

Initial inquiries indicate the victim had travelled to the Croydon area with a group of friends a few hours before he was shot.

It is then believed that the group became involved in an altercation with up to nine men, which resulted in a car chase involving three vehicles.

The chase commenced on Scarbrook Road and came to an end on Duppas Hill Road, where the victim was shot.

Detectives wish to speak to anyone who witnessed the pursuit, which involve a dark coloured estate car, in which the victim was a passenger, and silver hatchback, believed to have contained some of the suspects.

Anyone with information relating to any aspect of the incident is asked to call the incident room on 020 8247 4553; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
