Court date for police officer at centre of racism claim

A METROPOLITAN police officer, who was filmed allegedly racially abusing a man during last summer’s riots, will appear in court next month.

Investigators at the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have served a summons on PC Alex MacFarlane to face a charge of a racially aggravated public order offence.

MacFarlane, 52, will appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on May 22.

The charges relate to an incident in August 2011 when a 21-year-old black man alleged that PC MacFarlane made racist remarks towards him he was while detained by police.
