Cocaine seized at New York's UN building

CRIME SCENE: 35 pounds of cocaine was seized at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York

A BAG containing up to 35 pounds of cocaine was seized at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in New York last week, it has been reported.

The drugs, which are said to have a street value of $200 million, were found in the mail centre of the international organisation and was concealed in two white bags with a fake UN logo.

Paul Browne, New York's Police Department spokesman, said the shipment, which is said to have been sent from Mexico City through Cincinnati, had no name or address.

Gregory B. Starr, the UN undersecretary-general for safety and security, said that there were no indications that the package, which was stashed in to two bags, had anything to do with the UN.

"This did not come from a United Nations facility," Starr said.

"It was not, in my opinion, not intended to go to a United Nations facility," he added.
