EXPENSIVE: Adebayor celebrates a goal while playing for City

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR has dealt a blow to Manchester City’s hopes of capturing Arsenal captain, Robin van Persie.
The Premier League champions had been hoping to offload the striker to Tottenham Hotspur, so they could put in a bid for the Dutch forward.

Adebayor spent last season on loan at Spurs and although the club would be happy to sign him for a reported £6million, they cannot match his £175,000 a week wages.

City manager Roberto Mancini has made it clear that the 28-year-old is not in his future plans and could consider another loan deal. While he was at the north London club last season, City contributed £105,000 of his weekly wages.

Rumours that Adebayor is willing to sit out the next two years of his contract on the bench, will not please City. The champions are looking to get the Togo-born forward off a growing wage bill, particularly with the implementation of Financial Fair Play looming.
