Brixton beauty queen's dream

FAITH IN BUSINESS: Inspiration for Fifi Anderson’s spa came from the story of Queen Esther in the Bible

FIFI ANDERSON is a Christian whose business, Queen Esther Spa (QES) is providing a haven of peace and calm in Brixton, south London that enables people to be pampered in a relaxing environment.

Originally from the Ivory Coast, Fifi is one of the few black women in the United Kingdom to own this type of business.

When clients visit QES they are greeted by tastefully decorated premises – the purple, silver and grey interior exudes an aura of calm. And the treatments, which include a Hammam spa, sauna and massages, leave most of the clientele feeling chilled and pampered.

“People say that they feel clean inside out,” Fifi said.

Fifi, 42, gets clients of all races, but her black clients of- ten tell her they are proud that she stepped out of her comfort zone to open the business.

Fifi ’s entry into the beauty business is unique to say the least. She did so after a dream she had. She told Soul Stirrings: “The church I was going to asked us all to pray and ask God about our purpose. The pastor told us that sometimes we do things in our life but it’s not our purpose.

“He said we had spent enough time doing things that are not our purpose and the next day I dreamt I was doing facials.”

At the time when Fifi had the dream she was actually running a hair business but sensed God wanted her to change direction and enrolled on beauty therapy courses. She is now a fully qualified beautician.

She embarked on her career as a beauty therapist by renting a chair in a hair salon. Fifi went on to open her own beauty salon in Herne Hill, but then opened a new salon in Brixton after sensing God’s direction. She closed down thesalon to open QES in December 2017.

“Opening the spa was my dream come true,” said Fi . “I wanted people to come and en- joy the service.

“People are stressed and tired so an environment like QES would be beneficial.

“When people come they love the décor, the love and the ambience. I’m a Christian and most of the time I play instrumental Christian music and they love it. They find it very peaceful and relaxing here.”

As you can imagine, Fifi is a fan of Queen Esther in the Bible and said: “I like the story of Esther. It talks about beautification and the preparation Esther underwent before marrying the king. I want to reflect God in my business.”

Fifi, who currently attends Ruach City Church, has big plans for the future.

“My vision is to open a spa, with grounds and a swimming pool. I believe in God and have faith that it’s achievable.

“I don’t believe God will take me this far to leave me.”
