NINETIES FAVOURITES: En Vogue
NEXT WEEK, a much-loved R&B musical experience returns with a line up some may argue could be the best yet.
Billed as the ultimate Valentine’s experience, The Show Tour once again is an evening that will showcase the very best in 80s and 90s R&B and soul.
Following on from two successful shows, this time around, the emphasis is on love. Taking place on Valentine’s weekend (February 15), the events headline acts will include, Mint Condition, En vogue, Total, Silk, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Kut Klose and many more.
“I can guarantee it’s going to be a very romantic and nostalgic affair,” smiled Andrew Browne, CEO and co-founder of The Show Tour franchise.
“What we want people to do is to go out and do what is now known as ‘dunch,’ which is lunch and dinner.
“We want people to have ‘dunch’ around 4 o’clock and for them to be done in time for the show, which starts at 5.30pm because at the last show people who came late missed the opening acts and were very disappointed.”
MAN OF VISION: The Show Tour promoter Andrew Browne
Emphasising the event’s focus on romance, Browne said:
“This night is all about love, so if you haven’t got a significant other then bring someone you love. If you are rolling with your boys or it’s a night out with the girls, it’s still love.”
The event’s resident music man Frisky DJ says this installment is for real R&B connoisseurs.
“This show is more for the true lovers of vintage R&B,” he said. “It’s more specialist. Acts like Tony! Toni! Toné!, Mint Condition, En Vogue – they’ve all got some big tunes like Anniversary and Turn Around and Hold On. It’s going to be a eclectic mix of 80s and 90s soul.”
Browne adds: “My personal favourite act on this tour is Total because no one has seen them perform together in so long. This is going to be like a Total reunion.
“Additionally, we are going to have comedy from Eddie Kadi, music from [DJ collective] Rampage and a host of special guests. This show is going to be full of surprises.”
Also on the bill is Blackstreet 2, a revamped version of the original group [Blackstreet] founded by Teddy Riley. The famed producer will take to the stage with his most latest line-up, comprised of himself and vocalists Lenny Harold, Tony Tyler, and J-Stylz.
HERE COME THE BOYS: Blackstreet 2
“I know Blackstreet 2 have got a few tricks up their sleeve,” said Browne before revealing: “On the production side of things, Blackstreet 2’s rider [the list of requirements set by an act before a performance] is ridiculous!”
Reflecting on the long-term hopes of The Show Tour franchise, Browne concludes:
“For us as a brand, it’s all about providing a quality service and continuing to grow as a product that the public trusts.”
