Boris Johnson resigns as foreign secretary

OUT: Boris Johnson

BORIS JOHNSON has resigns as foreign secretary.

He became the third minister to resign in a 24 hour window, adding pressure on Theresa May over her handling of the Brexit negotiations.

Speculation had surfaced that Mr Johnson could quit after he failed to attend a meeting of the Government's Cobra emergencies committee as well as a summit of Western Balkan nations being held in London.

A Downing Street spokesman said: “This afternoon, the Prime Minister accepted the resignation of Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary. His replacement will be announced shortly. The Prime Minister thanks Boris for his work.”
