A GROUP of Bedford schoolchildren learnt traditional Ghanaian dance routines to perform during their production of The Golden Stool.

Children from Goldington Green Academy spent five weeks working with professionals to put on Monday’s (Dec 14) show, Bedford Today reported.

The play, based on the Ashanti King, was specially written by Martin Hanson and Emmanuel Abakah.

Equality and diversity manager Tracy Wilson said: “The event was brilliant. We had over 230 people attend.
“The atmosphere was electric and the children did a brilliant job reenacting the story of The Golden Stool.”

The Bedford school is twinned with a school in Ghana and funds raised through the event will go to projects there. Among the audience were the co-founders and directors of the Ashanti Development, which works to relieve poverty and promote health and development in Ghana, Penny David and Martha Boadu.
