Beaten up Kevin-Prince Boateng hospitalised

STREET ATTACK: Kevin-Prince Boateng was assaulted on Christmas Day (PA)

FORMER TOTTENHAM midfield maestro Kevin-Prince Boateng has received hospital treatment after being assaulted on Christmas Day.

The 26-year-old Schalke player, who has played for Portsmouth and AC Milan, was beaten up while in Germany enjoying the European winter break, according to reports.

German publication Bild reported that the German-born Ghana international, who also has been a prominent anti-racism campaigner this year, was attacked in Gelsenkirchen, the home city of Schalke, on December 25.

It is understood the midfielder suffered injuries to his ribs, back and neck following the attack that took place just before 1pm.

In a statement, local police said: “A 26-year-old man, a resident of Meerbusch, was physically attacked on the street by a currently unidentified man.

"There are indications that the motive for the crime is connected to the personal affairs of the 26-year-old.

"The man was mildly injured. Criminal investigators have begun their work.”

Reports say Boateng checked himself into hospital.

There are no indications as of yet that the assault had a racial motive.
