NEW GUNNER: Yaya Sanogo in action for France's Under-20s in Turkey (PA)
ARSENE WENGER has made a move in the transfer market and snapped up Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre.
Arsenal paid no fee for the 20-year-old striker who has played in the French team’s youth set-up – he was a free agent after his contract with the Ligue 1 side lapsed.
The new signing is currently representing his country in Turkey at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup.
The Gunners have acquired a forward who notched up 11 goals in 24 appearances for Auxerre.
Wenger said: “Sanogo is a good young signing for us.
“He has shown he has potential with his recent performances for Auxerre and also for the France Under-20 side.
“We are looking forward to Yaya joining us and continuing his promising development.”
The north London team has not revealed any further details of the transfer, such as the length of his contract.
Sanago represents another classic Wenger signing, with an emphasis on youth and development.
There has been mounting pressure on the Arsenal boss to sign players at their peaks, and, fitting to that mould, the Argentine Gonzalo Higuain is expected to arrive at the Emirates from Real Madrid this summer.
