Aretha Franklin reveals exciting post-retirement plans

HOMECOMING QUEEN: Aretha Franklin is preparing for the next chapter in her life, much to the delight of Detroit

AFTER HAVING a Detroit street named after her earlier this year, Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has gone public with plans to return to the city, her hometown and musically-iconic in its own right.

Franklin announced her retirement from recording music and touring in February of this year and has now gone into more detail about how she will be spending her time after the big farewell.

Speaking with the Detroit Free Press, the 25-time Grammy Award winner revealed:

"I'm interested in doing a small nightclub downtown, and he (Bruce Schwartz, Detroit relocation ambassador for Bedrock Real Estate Services) and I have been talking about this for a couple of years now. In my retirement plan, I'd like to have a small club here in Detroit."

The 75 year-old singer said the club would be called 'Aretha's' and she has every intention of treating patrons to the odd performance. She went on to tell the Detroit Free Press:

"From time to time I would sing, and of course, I would have special artists come in to perform for the city that people in Detroit like - Detroit favourites."
