American broadcaster sees double Dutch next to Usain Bolt

DOUBLE DUTCH: NBC confuse names of the man next to Usain Bolt

AN INNOCENTLY-TAKEN photograph between Usain Bolt and Robin Van Persie has got new Premier League broadcaster NBC in hot water.

The American network, which includes pundits Graeme Le Saux, Lee Dixon and Tony Gale, confused last season’s Premier League top goal scorer for Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Van Persie, stood next to sprint king and Red Devils fan Usain Bolt in the image, was captioned "Ruud van Nistelrooy, Manchester United Forward (2001-2006)".

Not a great start for NBC, which paid about £160m to be able to exclusively broadcast three seasons on Premier League football in the US.

With former BBC reporter Arlo White in their commentary box, the network saw the biggest ever American audience for a Premier League opening weekend with a 67 per cent increase from 2012, according to Deadline.com.

NBC showed three games over the weekend: Liverpool versus Stoke City; Swansea against Manchester United; and Chelsea take on Hull on Sunday.
