INFLUENTIAL: Sakho in action
FOLLOWING A fine victory at title favourites Chelsea, Sam Allardyce was full of praise for on-loan Mamadou Sakho but he stopped short of saying whether or not the Liverpool defender will be a Crystal Palace player next season.
Sakho, 27, was farmed out by the Anfield club having reportedly fallen out of favour with Jurgen Klopp.
The Kop’s loss has been Palace’s gain as the relegation threatened south London club have earned 12 points from their last four fixtures (at the time of going to press) lifting them to 16th and Paris-born Sakho, who has Senegalese heritage, has been pivotal to the rise and rise of the Eagles.
Talking about the impact Sakho has had in the 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge on April 1, Allardyce said:
“He’s enjoying his football, you should have seen him in the dressing room after the game, it shows you how much he’s enjoying his life here.
“He’s brought that resilience to the team by his example for me, the way he’s played. He’s leading, he’s talking to the players and he’s taken a commanding role both in his performance and in his information that he is giving out on the field.
“Of course, that’s all helped in our defensive resilience and having only conceded one goal in the last four games shows how important he is for us and what effect he’s had on the team.”
“Securing our Premier League status is first and then we can talk about whether or not Mamadou Sakho wants to be with us or whatever it might be. It certainly looks like his future is not Liverpool.”
