Alex Song assaulted in Cameroon

ARSENAL PLAYER Alex Song was attacked by angry fans as he returned home from training in Cameroon on June 13.

According to witnesses, the midfielder was accosted on the street by a group of mostly young boys, who blamed him for the country’s loss at the weekend.

It is believed that Song was not badly hurt in the incident. The national team had lost 2-1 to Libya in their 2014 World Cup qualifying match in Tunisia, on Sunday.

Football legend Roger Milla’s Citizens Committee for the Revamping of Cameroonian Football has called the attack awful and barbaric.

They also called on the government to act immediately and arrest everyone involved, in order to dissuade other troublemakers.

The loss means the Indomitable Lions now sit third in their group, behind Libya and DR Congo.

The team are in action again this weekend as they take on Guinea Bissau in a qualifier for the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

The police say an investigation has been launched and those guilty will be brought to justice.
