Achieve your body goals with Racquel Sinclair

HEALTHY BODY, HEALTHY MIND: The Voice's new fitness expert Racquel Sinclair says that quick HIIT workouts can aid fat loss and increase the functionality of your heart

BEING IN the health and fitness industry is exhilarating. There have been far more gyms, clubs, spas and healthy eating spots birthed in the last decade and they’re thriving like never before.

With this growing trend, you could argue that there should be no reason as to why anyone is unable to maintain the perfect dietary plan complemented with a consistent training plan – right? Well actually, that’s not the case.

While living a healthy lifestyle has become a staple in most people’s day-to-day routine, one of the biggest obstacles that many have is time.

Many want to go to the gym, attend classes and get fit, but time seems to be the issue preventing people from achieving their goal. What if it’s as simple as this: you only need 20 minutes of a high-intensity, fat-burning routine in order to help you to increase the function of your heart, burn fat, lose weight and tone up.

Incorporating well-balanced nutrition to complement your physical activity could be the ultimate formula to, first, helping you start, or second, to helping you continue. There are many who are inspired by the trends and the fast speed conveyor belt of fitness posts across social media platforms but just don’t have the desire to go to the gym or a run in the park.

So what about training in your own home? Perhaps it’s time to get creative and be innovative and committed to yourself.

I’m going to give you exercises that you can either do at home or at the gym. All you need is 20 minutes, sometimes less – no equipment, just yourself. Perform these exercises either first thing in the morning or last thing at night.

There is no such thing as having no time, but there is such a thing as not making health and wellness a priority. As I am about to embark on this journey with you, you need to decide whether this is a priority – if the answer is yes, then you are in the right place!

You may have heard the word HIIT. HIIT stands for high intensity interval training. The great thing about HIIT is that it spikes your heart rate up, enables you to burn fat faster and takes no time at all.

HIIT training is what I like to call a ‘fit-in-your-purse’ training method – it’s quick, effective and the perfect formula for schedules short on time. Research studies have shown that you can burn anywhere between 150-250 calories in a 20-minute session.

Regular activity is required in order to reach your fitness goals, so start with me today! Follow these four effective exercises for improving your fitness, building a strong core and increasing all fitness levels.

FORWARD JUMP & PUSH BACK

The forward jump and push back focuses on quads and glutes and helps strengthen your core. It will also work on your fitness. Do this for 30 seconds and then rest before moving on to the next exercise.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS

This is a fantastic exercise for building your cardiovascular fitness and engaging the core. Repeat for 30 seconds and then rest for 30 seconds. On to the next one!

MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS TWIST

This exercise focuses more on the obliques, abdominals and increasing strength.

PLANK JACKS

Plank jacks are great for focusing on cardiovascular fitness and core. Essentially, all four exercises are based on the same areas as it is a HIIT session. With that, you want to build on fitness and those particular ex- ercises focus on the core areas. Do these four exercises as a set of four, with one minute rest between each set.
