91 killed and rising after ‘horrific’ tornado in Oklahoma

LEFT IN RUIN: The city of Moore

A TWO-MILE wide tornado has caused devastation just outside Oklahoma City, killing at least 91 people – 20 of which were children – on May 20.

With the death toll expected to rise, buildings have been left in ruin, especially in the city of Moore, as a hospital and two primary schools have been completely levelled.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado generated wins of 200mph and wrecked havoc in Moore for roughly 45 minutes yesterday, making it one of the worst tornados in American history.

Plaza Towers Elementary had its roof torn off and its walls destroyed while Briarwood Elementary also sustained severe damage.

Speaking about the chaos that the tornado has caused, Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb told the BBC News: "The school was flattened. The walls were pancaked in.

"There's still roughly two dozen children that are missing. There have been some bodies recovered from that school and it's absolutely horrific and devastating."
