Is ‘Nappily Ever After’ set to hit the nail on the head?

THE CHALLENGING relationship between black women and their hair seems to be perfectly articulated in the upcoming film Nappily Ever After and black women can barely contain their excitement.

The trailer, which was recently released on Twitter, captures the life of Violet Jones, a woman who is on a desperate search for perfection but ends up caught in an identity crisis.

The telling film, which is based on a novel by Haifaa al-Mansour and the role of Violet played by Sanaa Lathan, is an on-screen depiction of the realities faced by many black women who can relate to Jones’s struggle.

Tweeting about her upcoming role, the award-winning actress said she, “can't wait for you to go on her life-changing journey”, which is set to begin on September 21. “

It has also been hailed as a game changer through its attempt to challenge mainstream beauty ideals and uplift black beauty norms.
